Thank- you to everyone who took part in the 14 day art challenge, of drawing a portrait everyday. I put this challenge together to help us break the day up during lock down, and to introduce new creative things we can do with our spare time. Some of you who took part are already professional artists, where others are making art for a hobby or its the first time you have painted or drawn before!
It doesn't matter where you are in your artists journey, but what matters is that we all take part and build a community where we get to talk to one another.
I have already been in contact with the finalist and winner of the challenge and it has been nice chatting and seeing your artwork.
In this blog post I am sharing images of the artists work who took part in the 14 day challenge. To view more of their work the social links are provided at the bottom of this page.
The winner of this completion is an artist called Mary Branson. She sent me portraits of her husband and I love the simplicity of the drawing and how she has captured her husband in a fleeting moment of how he spends time at home during lock down. I like how she has drawn his hair with swirling lines and mixed the black pen with rubbed pencil, for softer and more defined areas.
The finalist is an artist called Simon Schaffner, and I chose him to be a finalist because his drawings are very dramatic and I like the use of mediums he has combined. I think these drawings are self portraits and they almost show two different sides to Simon. One would be extrovert and very expressive through fashion, and another side is someone who is deep in thought during lock down and more introverted.
During lock down we are faced with more time to ourselves than usual, and I find this experience very personal which shows in our work. So I want to say thank-you to the artists that shared their moments with me through their drawings.
